Youth Award Dinner
The Nuclear Free World Committee of Syracuse Peace Council (formerly known as Peace Action of CNY) will present the 2015 Youth Award recognizing 4 young local peace activists at the ArtRage Gallery at 505 Hawley Avenue, corner North Crouse Avenue, in Syracuse. It will include a light supper, youth presentations, and celebration of and of the joining of the oldest continuing peace organization in the US (Syracuse Peace Council) with the local chapter of the largest grassroots peace network, (Peace Action).
Recipients of the Nuclear Free World Youth Award have shown a devotion to peace, justice, and protecting the environment by engaging in activities– through school, place of worship, or community—that demonstrate their passion to work on the underlying causes of war, violence, and injustice. We hope this recognition will help young people to become more aware of the issues of peace and justice in our communities, in our country, and in our world, and to persist in pursuing these goals.
The 2015 Awardees are Sophie May, Manlius Pebble Hill School; John Medina, Nottingham High School; Jaydia Perry, Syracuse Institute of Technology; and Ranya Shannon, Nottingham High School. Awardees receive a small stipend to support their activism. Parents, teachers, and friends are invited to hear what young activists are doing in our community and to celebrate peacemaking in Syracuse.
